| The Senior and Wellness Program has a new look and name!
The Ottawa County Board of DD expanded and renamed the Senior and Wellness program, with the hiring of a Coordinator. The new and improved program is called REC, short for Recreational Experiences in the Community. The Coordinator helps to ensure a variety of activities are made available each month. The goal is to have additional day, evening, and weekend activities to help keep people active and improve the overall quality of their lives (and just to have fun). The Seniors Portion of the REC program is for people over the age of 55 (or who have senior like tendencies) who are retired enrollees or who work (or attend workshop) on a limited basis. Additional alternative daytime activities have been added that will focus on social and leisure and maintaining one's health and well-being. Groups will be actively involved in the community senior activities, as well as independent activities throughout the area. The Wellness/Recreation portion of the REC program is geared towards people who are looking to become more active and healthy in their lives and increase their social interaction in the community. Activities will take place in the afternoon/evening during weekdays and weekends. Activities will range from healthy living classes (proper diet), fitness and exercise goals, athletics, and leisure activities. There are also group activities to aid in social interaction such as: walking/hiking, bowling, bicycling, sporting events, theater productions/musicals, amusement parks, and other fun activities. Through these activities, it is our goal to get people more integrated into their community. |
